About Us

Justice for those who cannot get it for themselves

The Washington Association of African American Investigators was formed to provide the African American community with a trusted resource to address the unique investigative needs of our community. Our goal is to assist members of our community with the complex issues faced in gathering accurate timely information needed to assist in preventing problems and/or resolving social, legal, and business issues. We also aim to increase the number of African American investigators in Washington State, to accomplish this we will provide training and support for people who want to explore opportunities in the private investigation industry.

Code of Ethics

  1. Adhere to all applicable laws, statutes & regulations of the State of Washington in carrying out investigations on behalf of our clients.
  2. Refrain from any conduct that would bring the PI profession or the association under reproach.
  3. Will be just & honest in professional dealings with all persons.
  4. Will execute a written agreement with a client which outlines fees, costs, retainers and a description of the work to be performed.
  5. Will be professional, ethical and fair in the performance of duties.
  6. Will not engage in the improper & unethical solicitation of business.
  7. Will faithfully and diligently carry out assignments, representing the best interest of clients and ensure that all investigations are conducted truthfully and factually.
  8. Will safeguard confidential information and exercise due care to prevent its unauthorized disclosure.
  9. Will disclose to any client a conflict which would prevent any member from performing a fair, professional investigation.
  10. Will not misrepresent or disparage any member, in any forum, in order to obtain an assignment or to obtain an unfair advantage during an assignment ow while carrying out the duties of the association.
  11. To promote, protect, safeguard and ensure the integrity of this association and our profession at large.
  12. Will diligently continue to learn about new laws, rules and regulations, strive to educate ourselves in all facets of the work in which we are engaged to be able to better represent the profession, ourselves and our clients.
  13. Will render honest, unbiased, unembellished, complete reports withholding nothing form the client except the privacy interests of all persons involved in our investigation. The collection of personal identifying information shall only be gathered for lawful purposes and shall not be disclosed to a third party. No investigator shall make a disclosure of information to a person not authorized by the client or by applicable laws.
  14. Ensure that all investigators associated with WAAAPI adhere to the WAAAPI code of ethics while performing services on behalf of the association.
  15. Will be cognizant of and respect the rights of others at all times.
  16. Will strive to avoid disagreements with fellow members by being polite, courteous and professional, in our deeds, acts and words.
  17. Will at all times recognize and respect the professionalism of our peers.
  18. Will immediately inform the association of any unlawful or unprofessional practices of any member.
  19. Will promote educational programs and training designed to raise standards and practices, improve efficiency and increase the effectiveness of the private investigative profession.
